Joost Grootens


Joost Grootens (1971) is a self-taught graphic designer with a background in architecture. He runs a studio in Amsterdam. Studio Joost Grootens designs books in the fields of architecture, urban space and art, specializing on atlas projects, designing both the maps and the books themselves. Among his clients are 010 Publishers, Lars Müller Publishers, Phaidon Press, Vanabbe Museum and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Two of his atlas designs won the gold medal in the ‘Schönste Bücher aus aller Welt’ (Best Book Design from all over the World) competition in Leipzig. In 2009 he was awarded the Netherlands’ most prestigious design award, the Rotterdam Design Prize. For the past eight years Grootens has been teaching at Design Academy Eindhoven. He has also lectured and conducted workshops at various institutions in Europe and Asia.
