Smart Textile Services (STS) - Designing and selling smart textile product service systems
Innovation by combining soft materials and high technology has led to “smart textiles”. These interactive textiles can, by using sensors and actuators, collect data or influence user behavior. This opens up a multitude of possibilities for applications in Product Service Systems (PSS) in the field of societal care, productivity and lifestyle. It is of strategic importance for the Dutch and European textile industry in general to explore these possibilities to sustain their competitive edge.
The goal of STS is to integrate existing knowledge from the separate domains of textile, technology and service and generate new knowledge about methods and tools for integration. This will be achieved by doing research through design in multi-stakeholder groups in an inspirational test-bed where new smart textile product service systems can be created and tested.
