Dieter Rams famously noted that good design must be honest and that the form of an object should indicate its function. This is the case with the SK2 radio that he designed for Braun in 1955.
Today, sound-generating objects come in different forms, smaller and more efficient. However, the form originally created by Rams is still relevant and is copied and referenced in many contemporary designs, such as the iPhone, which was designed five decades after the SK2.
I chose to combine the original form of the SK2 with a contemporary music generator: the personal smartphone. Placing the smartphone in the slot allows the simple 'cut and fold' object to amplify the sounds emanating from the phone's speakers.
