Multispecies Dinner
"Multispecies Dinner is a culinary sensory experience inviting humans to rethink marine habitats from the perspective of their inhabitants. The project is based on research into the touristification and commodification of southern Italian Mediterranean coasts, which endanger aquatic species, as well as research into the cultural histories of wild animals as spiritual guides or totems.
Dinner guests are invited to restore the once meaningful relationship between animals and people by using special cutlery designed to replicate the gestures of marine animals to eat an edible landscape presented on a marine rock. Guests feel the roughness of the surface through urchin spikes, smash edible rocks using crab pincers, and grab seaweed pasta with octopus tentacles. The sea urchins, octopuses, and blue crabs become representatives of culinary resistance against the region’s over-extraction of natural resources for tourism."
