Mental Health & Well-being

We know and understand it can be difficult to talk about personal well-being and mental and emotional issues. From experience we know talking about it can provide relief and we can make it easier to find support.

Potential options: The student counsellors are always happy to listen and provide guidance. These conversations are fully confidential. They can for instance:

  • Explain how to arrange professional psychological and emotional support through your general practitioner/family doctor and health insurance in the Netherlands. There are often wait-lists for psychologists in the Netherlands, sometimes it is easier to access support in your own language in your home country.

  • In the short term arrange contact with a psychologist, this is self-funded at student rate

  • Discuss using Mirro

  • Advise on a request to the Examination Board for adjustments that can support you in your studies

  • Advise on a request to the Examination Board for an extra assessment

  • Advise on a request to the Examination Board for and alternative study programme

  • Or else as discussed in the meeting with a student counsellor

Some of these options, such as the alternative study programme require filing documentation with a student counsellor.

Incoming students Incoming students who have ongoing professional mental health support are strongly advised to retain access to their professional support system. Switching to professional support in the Netherlands, close to DAE, may take some time to arrange.
