Design Academy Eindhoven is situated in the heart of Eindhoven and occupies 10,000 m2 of the striking landmark "de Witte Dame" (the White Lady Building). Built in 1928 as Philips' first large-scale lighting factory, it has now become Eindhoven's thriving centre for information, design, art and technology. Besides the Academy it also houses a public library and various commercial services for students and the general public.

Eindhoven is located in the south of the Netherlands, and with 250,000 inhabitants it is the fifth largest city in the Netherlands. Eindhoven was originally an industrial city, hometown to Philips Electronics and Lightning, and a city that emphasises technology and engineering. It has developed into a centre for innovation, research and design. With its many educational institutions and with leading companies choosing Eindhoven as their base, Eindhoven is often referred to as the 'brainport of the Netherlands'.

Eindhoven is strategically located in relation to the rest of Europe. It has its own airport and excellent rail and road connections. Amsterdam, Brussels and Cologne only take a 90 minutes train ride and Paris, London and Berlin are within easy reach by car, train or airplane.

The DAE Executive Board is responsible for the overall management of the Academy and is in charge of the school's general administration. Members of the Executive Board are employed part-time and are appointed, suspended and dismissed by the DAE Supervisory Board. The Supervisory Board also determines the remuneration for the members of the Executive Board.

Educational institutions in the Netherlands are obliged to include some form of employee participation in their organisational structure. This is meant to ensure that the interests of the staff are reflected in decision making. However, DAE believes it is essential to give students, lecturers and staff a clear seat at the table. This is referred to internally as DAE Participation.

The Collaborators of DAE are an invaluable part of the school’s education as well as an important support network. During the school year, DAE offers its collaborators an inspiring program of design lectures, sneak previews of graduate work, an exclusive collaborators of DAE breakfast at the annual Graduation Show and much more.

Studying at Design Academy Eindhoven puts you in the heart of one of the Netherland’s most dynamic cities with a vibrant student population and a budgeoning tech industry. For many students, living in Eindhoven also marks their first experience of living away from home.

The Student Council (STUC) is the representative body run for and by students. Through acting as the voice of the student body, initiating and collaborating on various community building events, the STUC’s mission is to ensure the student experience at DAE is exciting, meaningful and accessible.

Students sometimes need additional support or facilities during their studies for a wide variety of reasons: for instance, due to special circumstances such as disabilities, chronic illness, neurodivergence, mental health, or personal issues. This does not need to be an obstacle to studying at DAE. Student counsellors Olga Pullens (BA/MA) and Mona Smits (BA), can support students and advise on the arrangement of additional facilities. DAE prefers to think in terms of opportunities, provided that the level of education is not affected.

In an ideal world, a confidant counsellor would not be needed. However, the reality can be different. Design Academy Eindhoven has two external confidential counsellors for all employees and students. They are independent and are there for you to discuss sensitive matters or problems. Together with you, they can look at possible solutions.

Design Academy Eindhoven’s Lecture Series is co-led by the student-led Lecture Series Committee (LSC), a Programme Manager (Ceola Tunstall-Behrens) and DAE’s Events Producer (Carline Zoete). It brings leading practitioners from the field of design – as well as practitioners from other disciplines such as art, architecture, craft, curation, education, the humanities and science – to DAE to share their ideas and work with the students and public.

The community experimental grant is a micro-grant scheme supports student-led activities and events that contribute to internal community building through extra-curricular initiatives within our Academy. Connect people, bring about discourse, foster collaboration, experimentation with support from the community experimental grant.

The DAE editorial team has been set up to support the communication of activities, ideas, and processes taking place within the institution.

Formed in November 2020, the core team has evolved to include former DAE students, professional editors, and communications and campaign specialists. Collectively, they have experience in design, journalism, communications and curation.

The team sits within the Communications, Presentations and PR department.
