Design Academy extends lease on Witte Dame

Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) has extended its lease at its current location in the Witte Dame until 2028. The extension was partly achieved through cooperation with and efforts from the Municipality of Eindhoven and landlord Profinn.

As a result, bridging has been arranged between the end of the current lease in De Witte Dame and the completion of DAE's new lease in the Kanaalzone. Together with landlord Profinn, a suitable transition was achieved in which DAE will hand over space in phases. This joint solution contributes significantly to a careful transition to the new location. This will allow the institution to deal creatively with a more compact learning and working environment and enable Profinn to gradually start the redevelopment of the site. "We see this as a challenge, but also as an opportunity to be flexible and innovative with our space. Of course, the main thing is that education is not affected," said Raf De Keninck, member of the Executive Board.

It was announced last year that DAE will move to a new location within Eindhoven in 2028. The location for DAE's new rental building is within the Kanaalzone planning area, Kanaaldijk Zuid 3-5 right next to the former Campina factory site. It is a development location with great potential for innovation, creativity and inspiration, a good breeding ground for future designers. A tailor-made building with the required surface area will be constructed. There will also be 250 student houses in the plan area. This was part of DAE's Plan of Requirements.

How the rezoning on the current site will be realised in an innovative and flexible way is being worked out in the meantime.
