DAE MOVES

In 2028, Design Academy Eindhoven will move to a new building in the Kanaalzone in Eindhoven. But DAE MOVES is about more than just a physical relocation. It stands for movement in the broadest sense of the word. We are moving forward – in thinking, in doing, in organising. The internal transition within De Witte Dame now and the move to the new location in 2028 mark a new phase in our development. A phase in which we, as an academy, proudly will create more space for growth, innovation and collaboration. As a leading design academy, we train designers to think critically, act ethically and make a practical impact. The new location supports that mission. DAE MOVES is not an end point, but a proud and powerful starting point to set a course for the future together.

POSITIVE FEEDBACK DURING RESIDENTS' MEETING ON DE KANAALZONE

On Thursday evening, 26 June, a meeting was held at the Melkfabriek on Kanaaldijk Zuid to inform local residents about the plans of the municipality and DAE regarding DAE's arrival in De Kanaalzone in Eindhoven. Participants were also able to provide input or ask questions. Saskia Lammers, Alderman for Welfare, Work, Poverty, Culture and Design, and Raf De Keninck, member of the Executive Board, informed those present about what has been prepared so far and what still needs to be done before DAE opens the doors of its new premises in September 2028. There were more than 80 participants who
were very interested and positive about the plans.

‘More visible’

The alderman said that DAE has economic power and great cultural and social value. DAE's new location fits in with the existing creativity in the area and is also close to
the city centre”, said Saskia Lammers. Raf De Keninck, member of the Executive Board, said that it felt good to be able to talk about the relocation out in the open. “We are the smallest HBO-institution in the Netherlands, but we are among the best in the world. We need to be more visible. In our current building, we have no contact with the outside world, but in our new home, we want to create dialogue with the surrounding area and present ourselves”, said De Keninck.

Positive

After the brief introductions, participants were able to gather information at various stands. They had the opportunity to provide input or ask questions on cards. There were many positive comments. For example, one of the cards read: ‘Having DAE here in my backyard really adds something.’ All input will be shared with residents in a report in the autumn.

Sneak Peek Graduation Show

Five graduates were given the opportunity to present their final projects, giving residents a glimpse of the students work. This was a sneak peek of the Graduation show to be held in October. The students enthusiastically explained the ideas behind their work to interested participants.

Planning

The preliminary schedule was also shared. The next milestone is the selection of the architect, which will most likely be announced in September.
