Library Rules

The Library Rules are an addition to the DAE House Rules.

General

• The library is only accessible to students, tutors and DAE staff.

• Eating and drinking is not allowed in the library.

• Students, tutors and DAE staff may borrow library materials for free.

• The peace and quiet of the library must be respected. Students and staff members must make their phone calls outside the library and audio may only be listened to on headphones and at a volume that cannot be heard by other library users.

Borrowing library materials

• Any borrowed library materials must be returned in time and undamaged.

  • Borrowers must make an effort in preventing damage, especially from rainwater, food and drink.
  • Borrowers must make use of bags and backpacks that offer sufficient protection for the materials.
  • Borrowers are not permitted to write in books or fold page corners.
  • Only fully detachable post-its or loose papers are allowed as page markers.

• Library materials can only be borrowed on a personal basis and cannot be passed on to another person. If materials are nevertheless passed on to others, this is done at the borrower's own risk.

• A maximum of five books and theses can be borrowed at any one time. Books and theses have a maximum loan period of three weeks, except for books with a red sticker. The loan period for these books is determined in consultation with the librarian.

• Except for the most recent issues, the loan period for magazines and magazine collections is one week. The most recent issues of magazines can only be borrowed for a limited period during the day or when the library is closed (evenings/weekends/holidays). The librarian decides on a maximum number.

• Materials that have not been reserved by another user can only be extended upon request by mail before the end of the loan period.

Non-compliance with Library Rules

• If the applicable loan period has been exceeded, there will be a fine of one euro (€ 1,00) for each week that the period is exceeded.

• If the loan period has already been exceeded, the borrower must come to the library with the borrowed library materials to request for extension of the loan period.

• If materials are lost or damaged, DAE will purchase a replacement copy, the costs of which will be charged to the student. Library materials will also be replaced when the deadline for returning them is exceeded by one month.

• All borrowed materials must be returned and any outstanding debts to the library must be paid one week before graduation at the latest.
