Social Animal
After adopting her dog during an internship in Vietnam, Margaux Vaiana Guillot found unexpected belonging in a Dutch neighbourhood through the local dog community. In ‘Social Animal’, she honours the dog's ability to foster connection across cultural boundaries. She interviewed six owners she bonded with, asking how their dogs shaped their social lives. The result is Dogue Magazine: a publication featuring interviews, photographs of upcycled dog outfits, and documentary fragments. Each dog was gifted a unique garment, made from clothing donated by their owner and designed to reflect their story and personality. ‘Social Animal’ challenges human exceptionalism by proposing a more-than-human society — one where empathy and care extend beyond our species, and animals are recognised as social actors in everyday urban life.
