Imperfect Ceramics

Aljosha Grégoire

Can efficiency coexist with imperfection? 'Imperfect Ceramics' is a collection of drinking vessels that challenges mass production and utilitarian design through handicraft. Using a custom-built working installation, designer Aljosha Gregoire hand-sculpts each cup, blending systemic efficiency with human touch. By accelerating creation and embracing errors, the process questions industrial perfectionism. Each cup becomes a record of its making, as the cups' silhouettes deviate significantly from industrial uniformity, uneven glazes and asymmetrical handles defy anonymity. The manufacturing system seems to breathe freely, as optimisation honors a human, uneven poetry.
