Light Light Light

Roel Jansen

From a personal sensitivity to harsh light, Roel Jansen developed the practice of placing plastic bags over lamps to soften their light. This improvised gesture grew into a fascination with creating light sources from found objects in his surrounding area. The result is a series of lamps that feel alive, full of character and humour. Using materials like mesh, steel, plastic bags, bricks, springs, pulley systems, zip ties and glass bottles, Roel Jansen experiments with connections, layering and construction until new forms take shape. Objects collected for their texture, colour or shape act as catalysts for creation. The resulting lamps evoke a family of cartoonish robots, balancing function with imagination. 'Lights Lights Lights' shows how design can grow from fascination and play, turning everyday resources into objects that spark joy and delight.
