WHO’S GAME?
For Karin Pinto, the pool table has been both a playground and a portal for over a decade. As a familiar structure amidst the unfamiliar backdrops she found herself in during her travels around the world, it taught her about the importance of nonverbal communication and spontaneous interactions. However, she quickly realised the environments around the table could often be intimidating, either found in overly competitive contexts or in neglected and unpleasant settings. Prompted by a desire to imagine a more inclusive and inviting pool table, Karin redesigned, sculpted and crafted each element with intention — a table and cue from reclaimed materials, a triangular rack cast in bronze, and candy-coloured plastic balls. Here the experience of playing is also transformed, emphasising the joy of the game above all else.
