Landscape of Positions
‘Landscape of Positions’ is an installation rooted in the auto-ethnographic fieldwork and research of designer Chloé Terrée. The project explores how citizens react when crises unfold nearby. In a Europe marked by rising xenophobia, war and climate-driven displacement, it asks what enables some to act with care rather than fear. Grounded in Briançon and Calais — two French border towns where many risk their lives seeking refuge — the project draws from the experiences of volunteers who remain attentive and calm amid the ongoing instability.
Shaped by somatic practices and developed in collaboration with a drama therapist, the installation provides a space for introspection within exhibition spaces. The large, tent-like structure is a sensorially soothing and quiet space. By fostering a physical sense of ‘material security,’ the tent invites visitors to slow down, feel, and discuss collectively, asking us to consider how inner safety and group strength shape outward solidarity.
