FRAME Highlights 8 DAE Graduates After Milan Design Week

In April, 17 recent graduates exhibited their work at Milan Design Week in the exhibiton Inframezzo, curated by Martina Muzi. The display played with the concept of “intermezzo” – a brief break, pause or bridging event in musical pieces or theatre productions that occurs between two more significant acts. In this exhibition, the discipline of design is framed as an agent of transformation or a space that encourages pause and reflection, leading to reimagination and/or resistance.

After Milan Design Week, FRAME published a roundup of eight works from the exhibition that made them consider design “as something that develops through making, rather than arriving as a finished result.” From lamps made from wax that can be infinitely recast into new shapes to a broom that turns into a briefcase to explore gender dynamics in Japan, the article gives a sense of the breadth and depth of the projects on display.
