Residency Guide

Students wishing to study in the Netherlands need to arrange for residency matters, which include obtaining a provisional residence permit (MVV) and a residence permit.

The MVV is a sticker placed in the passport by the Dutch embassy, valid for stays of more than three months. The residence permit is issued by the IND and is valid for the duration of the study programme.

For non-EU students, the educational institution is the recognized sponsor and handles most of the IND application process. The application process involves collecting documents, submitting the application, and paying the application fee. The MVV and residence permit are essential for students to study in the Netherlands legally.
