Geo—Design Alumni Show in the Van Abbe's 90th Anniversary Exhibition

On 6 June 20206, Eindhoven’s Van Abbe Museum opened Collection as Cosmos, an exhibition featuring over 250 works that celebrates its 90th anniversary and the museum's new Dommelplein area. This new space is a passageway that connects the 1936 museum building to more recent additions, forming a continuous spatial circuit. It expands the museum’s capacity to host collection interventions, temporary exhibitions, workshops, talks, meditations, children’s activities, multi-faith use and more.

To mark the opening of this space, Merve Bedir, an architect, researcher and tutor on DAE’s Geo—Design MA, curated the installation Tartı School alongside the department’s heads, Metahaven. It features the projects of three DAE alumni — Benze De Ream, Aleksandra Nazarova and Yuhan Fang 方语涵 — alongside objects from the museum’s collection to explore connections between time, measurements, design and art.

At the opening event, Bedir’s speech described the installation’s underlying idea: “One of the common threads of the works is extending the measuring of the environment and the earth to mediate not only our everyday relationship to it, but also to create the systems that shape our perception and our sensory understanding and reasoning of these relationships.”

This collaboration extends DAE’s longstanding relationship with the Van Abbe Museum and marks a new chapter in this collaboration.

Collection as Cosmos is on display until 2 May 2030.
